How to Set Up a Coffee Station at Home

Creating a coffee station at home can transform your morning routine, making it both enjoyable and efficient. For neurodivergent individuals like myself, a well-organised coffee station can help reduce stress and ensure everything needed is within easy reach. Here’s how to set up an effective coffee station that caters to everyone’s needs, including some tips for us neurodivergent folks.

  1. Choose the Right Location

Select a spot in your kitchen that’s easily accessible and has enough space for all your coffee essentials. Ideally, this should be near an electrical outlet if you’re using electric coffee makers.

2. Essentials to Include

Make a list of all the components you need to make your favourite coffee. Common items include:

  • Coffee machine (eg. Espresso machine, drip coffee maker, French press)

  • Coffee beans or grounds

  • Grinder (if using whole beans)

  • Kettle (for instant coffee)

  • Cups and mugs

  • Teaspoons or stirring sticks

  • Sugar or sweeteners

  • Milk (or cream)

    3. Organise with Containers and Trays

Use containers and trays to keep everything organised. Clear containers can help you see when you’re running low on supplies. Place cups, mugs, and teaspoons on a tray for easy access.

4. Label Everything

Labelling can be extremely helpful! Use clear, large labels for all containers and shelves. You can even use colour-coded labels to make it more intuitive.

5. Keep It Clutter-Free

A clutter-free space reduces anxiety and makes it easier to find what you need. Regularly clean and tidy up your coffee station to maintain an organised area.

6. Accessibility and Ergonomics

Ensure all items are within easy reach. Avoid placing frequently used items on high shelves or in the back of cabinets. Consider using pull-out shelves or lazy Susans to make accessing items easier.

Tips for Effective Set Up

  • Drawer organisers – use drawer organisers for spoons, stirrers, and other small items. This keeps everything neat and easily accessible.

  • Hooks for Mugs – install hooks under shelves or cabinets to hang mugs, saving counter space and keeping them within easy reach.

  • Magnetic Strips – Use magnetic strips to hold metal spoons and small tools, keeping them visible and accessible without taking up drawer space.

  • Easy-to-clean surfaces – choose surfaces and materials that are easy to clean. Coffee stations can get messy, so wipeable surfaces will make maintenance simpler.

Summary

A well-organised coffee station can make your mornings smoother and more enjoyable. By incorporating these tips, you can create a space that’s both functional and comforting. Happy brewing!
