Eco effective soltuons

Working at Eco Effective Solutions saw me working on a combination of architectural and graphic design projects. I have developed a variety of communication materials for the company including presentations and reports. I was also commissioned to design a graphic design film/mural for an office renovation project that was finalised in September 2021.

QTIC | EarthCheck Graphic Film

For this project I was asked to design a graphic film for QTIC|EarthCheck in South Brisbane. They were after a film that offered some privacy to the individual office spaces while livening up the office as a whole. I selected colours that represented the EarthCheck logo and chose the blue hues to introduce more vibrancy into the offices. The blue hues offered contrast to the existing grey carpets and white walls. The turquoise and green palette helped distinguist elements within the design while brightening up the space. It was important for the design to include repetitive patterns in an abstract way. Within the brief, it was suggested to include the Brisbane River as a pattern to represent the city while utilising some form of waves similar to the rolling hills. I included a portion of the river that is closest to the city as the main shape of the film while the rolling hills helped to personify my design.

Underneath the river aspect, I was extremely conflicted on how to design pattern-based illustrations. I wanted it to be somewhat abstract while maintaining a sense of permanency. As a result, I found myself looking into mandala patterns and cartoon water scenes. For me, I found common aspects of a riverside and wanted to create individual patterns for the natural objects (rocks, tress, water). I designed the water parts first as it was the most obvious characteristic to include for a graphic resembling the Brisbane River. Waves are very common in mandala patterns, so I wanted to repeat this within a new river shape that bled underneath the Brisbane River pattern. I felt I needed to separate the waves to the background so included circles that I later filled with a solid colour for more depth. With the rock formations, I pictured them being solid colour, however, bled the colours to make an intricate, different pattern.

As I had taken a top view approach for the other elements, I needed to do the same for designing the trees. Originally I drew them as starts, however, this didn’t mimic the curviness found throughout the design. Consequently, I decided to layer the tree icons throuhg a series of imperfect circles to imitate the unevenness a tree would have through its layers while including different line thicknesses to emphasise this.
